It features the downtown area of Oslo as seen looking across Oslo Fjord. In the distant left is Holmenkollen Skijump, the national arena for skiing and an observatory with a fantastic view of Oslo. Slightly right of center on the harbor is Akershus Fortress and Castle. Dating from 1299, this medieval castle and Royal Residence was developed into a fortress in 1592. Centered in the panorama with its large clock is Oslo City Hall. Oslo started in the 8th century as a settlement at the top of the Oslo Fjord that was developed by the Vikings.
